The Present Condition of Renovating Front Balcony into Room in Apartment House

  The purpose of this study is to make clear the present condition on renovation of front balcony in apartment house. Visiting interview survey carried out during 14th~24th of January, 2003. Subjects were 31 renovated houses converted the front balcony into the room.   The results are as follows. Contents of balcony renovation were "converting front balcony into livingroom remaining walls(window frame)" or "equipping of heating pipe". "Storage space", "space for cultivating of flower pots", "space for drying the laundry" show high percentage in use of renovated space, and use as living space was only 54.8%. It was found that renovated houses would not secure on the whole substitutable space for the front balcony. From the results of this study, it isn"t useful to remodel the front balcony into the room.
