  The purpose of this study was to examine effects of mother"s parenting, marital relations, & psychological characteristics on preschool children"s maladjustment. Subjects of this study were consisted of 295 mothers of 5 to 6-year-old children drawn from two kindergartens and two nursery schools located in Jeju city. The pilot study was done to examine the applicability of survey instrument. Data were analyzed by using SPSSWIN program with the method of frequency, percentage, t-test, F-test, Tukey post-hoc test, Pearson correlation, Cronbach α, and hierarchical regression.   The results were as follows:   1. There were partial differences in children"s maladjustment in accordance with their sex and age, but there were not any differences according to the mother"s parenting, marital relations, and psychological characteristic.   There were no difference in children"s emotional maladjustment according to sex, whereas boys was likely to have social and behavioral maladjustment than girls. There was no difference in children"s behavioral and psychological maladjustment according to age, while social maladjustment of children aged 5 year old was higher than that of children aged 6.   2. According to their mother"s age, children showed differences only in their behavioral maladjustment. There were partial differences according as whether their mothers had a job or not. 3. Mother"s affectionate parenting, marital conflict, and neuroticism was associated with children"s emotional maladjustment. 4. Among the influences of mother"s parenting behavior, aspects of marital relations, and psychological characteristics on her child"s behavioral maladjustment, mother"s affectionate and controlled parenting behavior, and marital conflict had effects on child"s behavioral maladjustment. 5. Mother"s affectionate parenting behavior and marital satisfaction were related to children"s social maladjustment.   In conclusion, mother"s affectionate parenting behavior had a relatively positive effect on her child"s adjustment. The more satisfied a mother was with her married life and the less marital conflict she had, the more positive effect she had on her child"s adjustment. On the other hand, the more neuroticism a mother had, the more negative effect she had on her child"s emotional adjustment.
