The purpose of the study was to estimate daily consumption of caffeine in college students. A total of 224 students (male 94, female 130) were participated in this study. Estimated caffeine consumption was compared by a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) method and a 24-hour recall method. FFQ including 13 caffeine-containing foods such as coffee, cola, chocolate was developed in this study. Average daily consumption of caffeine was 70.4 ㎎ and 37.8 ㎎ by FFQ and a 24-hour recall method, respectively. Caffeine intakes estimated by the two methods were significantly correlated (r=0.4123, p<0.001), even though the averages were different. The difference in average daily intake of caffeine estimated by the two methods might be due to a large variation of daily caffeine intake. Estimation of caffeine intake as well as validation of FFQ by one-day 24-hour recall method seems to be inappropriate. Therefore, validation of the FFQ developed in this study using other dietary methods such as 24-hour recall or diet record for a longer period might be needed.
