Educational and Clinical Applications of Impedance Audiometry

The purpose of present study is to identify some educational and clinical implications of impedance audiometry from reviewing the concerned literatures. The findings were as follows 1) The median acoustic reflex sensation level decreases from approximately 70 dB for patients with a 20dB sensorineural hearing loss, to approximately 25dB sensation level for patients with an 85dB sensorineural hearing loss. 2) Proper interpretation of acoustic reflexes can suggest the degree of the hearing loss. 3) The impedance technique is well suited for use with very young children since it requires little cooperation. provides objective results, and it is Quick and easy to administer. 4) The likelihood of absence of the acoustic reflex in the conductive loss ears increases as the magnitude of the air-bone gap increases. 5) Impedance audiometry may provide significant information concerning post-operative results, eustachian tube function, fistula test, peripheral facial nerve test, and some other pathologies.
