A Contrastive Analysis on Voice Onset Time of English and Korean Plosives Pronounced by Korean English Teachers and Native Speakers

  The object of this study was to survey the differences of Voice Onset Time of Korean English Teacher and Native Speakers. To execute this object, two American, two Canadian and two Australian as native speakers informants were selected. Six Korean Secondary English teachers from Kyoungnam, Pusan and Seoul were selected.   The results of this study was as followings:   First, VOT of Korean was shorter than Native Speakers except Velar Plosives in English plosives. This is due to the difficulty of Place of Articulation.   Second, VOT of Korean and English plosive pronounced by Native Speakers were similar, but VOT of Korean plosives pronounced by Korean English Teachers was much longer than those of Native Speakers.
