중등 영어교사 임용시험의 출제 문항 분석과 개선 방안

An Analysis of the National Level Qualifying Tests for English Teacher Candidates of Secondary Schools and Some Ways for Improvement of These Tests

  This study aims to analyze the current national level qualifying tests for English teacher candidates of secondary schools and to search for better ways to improve the current qualifying testing system administered by the government. The main content consists of the English teachers" quality and ability for the 21st century, the analysis of preceding research articles about teacher education, and the analysis of the tests administered from 2000 to 2004. The analyzed fields of major courses are composed of English linguistics, English and American literature, English education, and English proficiency test of cultural knowledge. Each field of major courses was divided into smaller categories again. For example, English linguistics covered phonetics, phonology, morphology, grammar, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and the history of the English language. Lastly tested items were analyzed according to each year, from 2000 to 2004. The test consisted of a total of 126 questions, which consisted of the form of a long or short essay, short answer, and sentence completion based on the given passages. The result of this study is summarized as follows: It is evaluated that the administered test could not reflect the entire contents of the curriculum for pre-service education for secondary schools and that it couldn"t select highly qualified and better teacher candidates. Therefore, a better testing system by the government should be developed for screening better teacher candidates.
