The objectives of this study are to develop task-based English writing test items and rating criterion, to administer those test items to high school students, to analyze the results of application, and to explore the potential fields of application on the findings. To accomplish these objectives, preliminary questionnaires were administered to investigate both the actual state of English writing test and the teachers and students" needs of writing tests. The content of the first grade high school English textbooks was analyzed and test subject matter was extracted with reference to the learning & test standards based on the 7th national curriculum. Finally, to examine validity, reliability and practicality of test item usage in high schools and to survey student affective factors, an experimental test was carried out and post-test questionnaires were distributed.
