초등영어교육에서 언어 규칙 지도의 위상

The role of language rules teaching in elementary English education

  In order to propose the need of appropriate grammar teaching, this research examined the effects of language rules teaching in the course of communicative language teaching. For the purpose, the task - based approach, one of the communicative language teachings was applied to the two groups of sixth grade students (44 students per group) in elementary school. One group got explicit instructions (about noun-related "numbers" and verb - related "past tense"), the other group non-explicit instructions. The explicit instruction means that the students are taught to be conscious of the language rules explicitly. The non - explicit instruction refers to students" learning the language rules only through various activities by themselves. The results showed that explicit language rules teaching helped students to learn the language more effectively and not only improved the students" communication skills but also had positive effects on oral performance, confidence and interest of students. Overall, we can see that the explicit language rules teaching serves as the trigger of language acquisition. But, further studies are needed for the effort to connect the creative use of the rules with the speaking fluency.
