This study is to examine effective factors of the connection of reading and writing(R/W) in EFL teaching and to provide some preliminary data for the R/W connection. Questionnaires were distributed to thirty-one teachers and 159 high school students. In this study, R/W connection can be an effective way in teaching R/W. The results and implications were the followings: 1) Students are being exposed more to English R/W and want to write their thoughts. But writing is not being taught as much as other skills. Writing needs to be done more than at present 2) Teachers know writing"s stance in teaching English and how to write, but in fact, teaching reading is the key part of English classes. Teaching writing in conjunction with reading which have similar processes is much more helpful to improve R/W skills. 3) Both R/W are being connected to speaking, and writing after reading is just to check students" reading comprehension. Teaching paragraph writing and essay writing need to be done. 4) Students and teachers think it is necessary, but not easy to write their thoughts with ease. Much more research on the techniques and materials of teaching R/W need to be done.
