This study is to investigate the effects of language learning strategies on the frequency of the use of language learning strategy and the listening comprehension ability of Korean elementary school students. For this purpose, the theoretical foundation of the necessity and method of instruction focused on language learning strategies were investigated. Also, an applicable lesson model for English language instruction, concentrating "the learning of strategies aspect" is designed Experimental research was conducted in order to apply such strategies on sixth-grade students. Out of three classes two classes were chosen as the object of this research. The selected classes scored very similar on the listening test, as well as and the questionnaire inquiring about the frequency of language learning strategies use. One class was determined to be the experimental class, to whom the language learning strategies instruction were applied. The other class was the comparison class, to whom English was taught using one of the general English texts. The major findings of this study were: First, the language learning strategy instruction makes elementary students use the language learning strategy more frequently. Second, the experimental group obtained higher scores than the comparison group whose first score was slightly higher than the experimental group. Synthesizing the given results showed that language learning strategy instruction has a positive effect on the students" frequent use of the language learning strategy. In addition, the results showed improvement of the children"s listening skills.
