Improving English Listening and Speaking Skills Using Web and Courseware in a High School

  The purpose of this study is to improve the listening and speaking abilities of high school students using web and courseware with automatic speech recognition features. According to the learners" level of abilities, the students were divided into three groups: advanced, intermediate, and beginning. The three groups were tested twice to measure their listening and speaking abilities. The effectiveness of the web and the multimedia coursewares were checked through teacher"s observations, questionnaires, and interviews. The results indicate that the students had great interest in the web and the coursewares, and improved a great deal in listening and speaking abilities, especially in the beginners" group. The students who had higher scores in listening had higher scores in speaking as well.
