The Effects of an E-mail Writing Activity on the Development of English Vocabulary and Writing Ability

  This study examines the effects of the Keypal learning-module on children"s writing ability. The subjects were two classes of fifth-grade students in "Y" elementary school in Busan: one class was experimental and the other, the control group. The experimental group had the Keypal learning program in the computer classroom and the control group watched English movies once a week for fifteen weeks. For the Keypal learning program, three steps of learning modules were provided: copying a letter with underlined sentences, completing a letter by inserting words into the blanks, and writing a letter with given topics. After the experiment, the results showed that the experimental group made a significant improvement in vocabulary and letter writing ability compared to the control group. Moreover, it is analyzed that students in the experimental group acquired confidence in writing a letter and making foreign friends.
