The importance of integrating information and communications technology(ICT) into English curriculum has long been recognized by teachers and students. Despite the importance of such integration the current national curriculum does not represent the use of ICT in its core curriculum, though it states the importance of understanding and use of information to further the high-level thinking skills in its goals and objectives. However, the goals and objectives are broad-based and insufficient to provide specific guidelines in constructing contents selection and sequencing. This loose linkage creates no reflection of ICT activities in English textbooks. On the other hand, the school operational guidelines (2000) by Ministry of Education and Human Resources recommend that teachers should use ICT at least 10% of their subject matter teaching to make the teaching/learning more effective. The school operational guidelines require teachers to reconstruct the textbook contents to adapt the contents to fit to the use of ICT in teaching and learning English. The process of reconstructing the textbook contents is difficult and time consuming for teachers who are already overloaded with other extracurricular work. The study recognizes such difficulty of reconstructing the textbook contents in micro level (classroom situations) and suggest that the integration should he done in macro level (national curriculum). The incorporation of ICT in the national curriculum will make positive impacts on textbooks and the changes of textbooks will naturally lead to the use of ICT in micro level English teaching and learning. The study explores the framework of integrating ICT into the national curriculum with reference to English teaching and learning.
