A Study on the Self-Perception of Appearance and Clothing Behavior of Korean Women

  The purpose of this study was three -fold : (1) to examine the relationship between self-perception of appearance and clothing behaviors, (2) to determine the difference of self-perception of appearance by age, (3) to determine the differences of clothing behaviors by age.   The Self-perception of appearance was measured by Shin"s questionnaire (1978) modified and supplemented for this study For the measurement of Clothing Behaviors, Creekmore"s scale (1966) was used. Date wase collected from 426 women dwelling in Seoul. The collected data were calculated to frequency, mean, standard deviation, Pearson"s correlation coefficient, F-tests, Duncan"s multiple range tests.   The results were as follows :   1. There was significant relationship between self-perception of appearance and clothing behaviors. Positive significant relationships were found between self-perception of appearance and aesthetic, and between self-perception of appearance and psychological depen dence, and between self-perception of appearance and Social attention, and between self-perception of appearance and interest. Negative significant relationship was found between self-perception of appearance and modesty.   2. There was significant difference in self-perception of appearance according to age.   3. There were significant differences in the subcategories of clothing behavior according to age. Age affected directly aesthetic, modesty, social approval, social attention and interest.
