The author tried in this essay to study and examine the methods of fostering children during the Yi Dynasty period, with the contents of Kyokmong Yogyol(擊蒙要訣 1577), Sasojol(士小節 1775), and Koam Kahoon(顧菴家訓 1886) as the main point of study, and to pursue the meaning of the traditional education of our country by means of reviewing the aforementioned books on the rearing and education of children from the modernistic point of view. Chosa(處事) education was designed to teach the grand principles to be observed when managing family life, social life and public-official life. People were educated so as to be thrifty and economical when governing households, keeping balance moderately, and to display the spirit of favor coupled with dignity when ruling people. It seems, however, that such a form of education aimed at making man reach a stage of sage acted somewhat as an impediment to the formation of positive and voluntary nature of personality. In this study, I was unable to go beyond an analysis and review of the content of various data, failing to perform an in-depth logical research. It is only hoped that this humble essay will serve as a data in the future study of this specific field of learining.
