Application of a Practical Travel Time Forecast Method Using AVI Data

  It is increasingly anticipated that AVI(Automatic Vehicle Identification) data will provide more accurate travel time forecast than the conventional method, with the traffic velocity data from vehicle detectors, does. Understanding the characteristics of AVI data. we propose a travel time forecast method, "Similar Pattern Search Method," to resolve problems of the conventional methods. Performance of the proposed method that utilizes AVI data of a major arterial road is very good. The results prove the attainability of the travel time forecast with the smaller errors than the one based on vehicle detector data. It indicates that the proposed travel time forecasting method with AVI data is practically applicable.
