Social Development and Home Economics

  The development of a nation can be consdered as a sum of political, economical and social development. Especially, I"d like to explan the social development by invesgating the progress in standard level and quality of living.   Home economics could be said to bea n appreach with originality that has been established and pursued in order to improve human society and contribute to human welfare by examining home life. Based on home life, it alsoinquires into interactions between human and it"s, surroundings-both humanistic and materialistic aspects. To trace it"s influence on social devleopment, classified home training to the existence of formal educationof my own accord.   They are;   1. Period of informal education (before school education until the Yi dynasty)   2. Period of formal education (after school education) And Ⅰ divided 2nd period into 3; different terms.   Education has both conservative and innovatory functions. Same as other societies, it"s, conservative fuctions have operated to seek for ourtraditional culture and to hand it down to next generation. Innovatoryfunctions have brought more scientific and rationalistic world to us. They have settled logical systems from obscure information that has been handed down orally and also have changed unscientific and irrationalistic ways of living to scientific and rationalistic ones so that they canimprove and develop every aspects of human lives, such as education, clothing, food and nutrition, housing and recreation. Actually they didmake a remarkable contribution to preserve and transmit our traditional culture, and they created new culture based on tradition, too. But rapid industrialization has brought negative effects on family organization and kinship system, so many serious family probrems could not help happenning.   Studies on interaction between humanistic and materialistic aspects through home economics" unique methodology based onhome life should be carried on, andcarried on, and, in addition, the application of those achivement to real world is also expected very strongly.   Should all students and specialists who study home economics makeevery possible efforts. and be more active in order that it"s results may be adoped to the social policy in administrative branches, it would be highly appreciated and in the meantime, I remain with best regards.
