The Study on the Korean Travel-Poetry (1920-1930)

  In the early part of the 20th century, the traffic nets and the typographic work had been developed in Korea. So, what is called "modern travel" appeared. The idea of "travel" is not natural. First of all, we need enough social system, in the next place we can have the consciousness of modern travel. It has the same meaning in literature. Travel does not lead to travelogue(travel-literature), but travelogue lead to travel.   In this thesis, I studied on the Korean travel-poetry. Among the lots of Korean modern poets, I selected the three of famous poets(1920-1930) - Jeong Jiyong(정지용), Kim Kirim(김기림), Baek Suk(백석).   They had experienced the modern life style during studying in Japan. The three poets had been familiar with modern life style, so they forgot the Korean traditional mood, memory, and life style, step by step. And so on they changed to strangers in Korea.   I find the feeling of stranger in their travel-poetry. Jeong Jiyong got to Orientalism finally. Kim Kirim wrote poetry of stranger feeling about Korean landscape and life. Baek Suk showed his confusion of identity in his poetry of travel and vagrancy. In other words, their travel-poetry is exposed the reconstruction of colonization scenery.
