This study aims to analyze the educational meanings of publicness at issue in reference to MacIntyre"s communitarianism. Chapter Ⅰ introduced the background of the problems of publicness in education. In chapter Ⅱ, I explained MacIntyre"s communitarianism in the aspects of criticism on modern enlightenment, contextual self which is not isolated, and virtue ethics in relation to community. Chapter Ⅲ dealt with the topic on "what is publicness?". For this, I analyzed conceptual structure of publicness and its originality as a national assistance. And I compared publicness with autonomy, which is to see if both are compatible or not. In chapter Ⅳ, I analyzed the meaning of educational publicness by focusing on the MacIntyre"s communitarianism and his discourse about publicness. Finally, I suggested that the publicness in education must be understood as positive equality, social integrity, national aid for fostering an whole-man, democratic decision-making.
