A Semi-Longitudinal Research on The Physical Growth and The Maximum Growth Age of The high school student in Kyunggi Province

&nbsp;&nbsp;The purpose of this study was to investgate the growth of 4,292 senior high school students, born from the first of in 1973 to the 28th of February in 1974, and the investigation is based on the semi-longitudinal research method.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;As part of the investigation of physique (height, weight, chest and sitting height) and the phenomena of growth development. It was attempted to know maximum growth age (hence forth MGA).<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;To achieve the purpose, the subjects were the students from agricultural areas and of urban areas in Kyunggi Province, and the conclusion came to the following facts.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;1. Physical Growth and Development<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;According to the result of the investigation, girl students exceed boy students in body height, body weight, chest-girth, sitting height, all of which show two-stage straight line.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;The crossing point of boys and girls in height is appeared between 10.5 and 13.5 years age (10.5-13.5 in the country and 10.0-13.5 in the city), in body chest between 12.0-15.5(12.0-15.9 in the country and 12.0­15.0 in the city), and in sitting height between 10.2-14.2(10.5-14.5 in the country and 10.0-14.0 in the city).<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;The physique of the students in the city is superior to that of the students in the country through all ages.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;2. Maximum Growth Age (M G A)<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;In the MGA of body height, boys are 12.50±1.49 years of age (12.49±1.71 in the city and 12.51±1.22 in the country) and girls are 10.66±1.27 years of age (10.72±1.38 in the city and 10.62±1.18 in the country). That means girls get to MGA 1.8 years earlier than boys.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;In weight, boys get to MGA at 13.10±1.30 (13.21±1.37 in the city and 12.91±1.21 in the country) and girls at 11.88±1.36 (12.02±1.33 in the city and 11.78±1.39 in the country).<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;That means girls get to MGA 1.2 years earlier than boys.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;In chest-girth, boys get to MGA at 13.13±1.67(13.12±1.83 in the city and 13.13±1.50 in the country) and the girls 11.93±1.61 (12.07±1.55 in the city and 11.81±1.65 in the country).<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;That means girls get to MGA 1.2 years earlier than boys.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;In sitting height, boys get to MGA at 12.70±1.42 (12.67±1.10 in the city 12.78±1.47 in the country) and the girls get to 10.81±1.68 (10.95±1.78 in the city and 10.71±1.60 in the country). That means girls get to MGA 1.9 years earlier than boys.
