Taekwondo is one of the most popular sports in korea and new olympic regulation match and a contact sport associated with a large number of injuries. In the present study, taekwondo athletes injuries during training and competitions was investigated via questionnaire. Taekwondo athletes in the universities of Seoul and the metropolitan area in Korea were observed prospectively for one year for acute injuries during training and competitions (n=428). The most time of injuries occurrence are during main exercise and practice. The most injuries occurred by attack or return kick. Contusion(23.4%) and myalgia(23.4%) were the most common type of injuries and the lower extremity was the most commonly injured area(50.6%). The defense type athletes get injured more then the offensive type athletes and they were more injured during return kick and defense than offensive. In men athletes, who has more careers are more get injuries and in women athletes, who has more practice times in everyday are more get injured. The most of ankle(94.6%) and toe(89.6%) injuries were occurred in men athletes. Base on the results of present study, it is suggested that using the protectors and more aggressive attitude are suggestions to reduce injuries.
