A study on the isokinetic muscular strength of shoulder, elbow, knee and trunk in collegiate soccer players

The purpose of this study was to suggest scientific training method and exercise prescription by evaluating the difference of isokinetic muscular strength at 60deg/sec(5 repetitions), power at 180deg/sec(5 repetitions), endurance at 240deg/sec(30 repetitions) of shoulder, elbow, knee and trunk flexion and extension, as well as ipsilateral ratio between collegiate soccer players and general university students.<BR> Fifteen soccer players and fifteen volunteered male students(control) were measured using Cybex 770 dynamometer. SPSS for window computer system was used to analyze the data. Also, unpaired t-test was performed for comparisons. Due to the possible injury, trunk endurance test at 240deg/sec was not performed.<BR> The results were that soccer players were superior to general university students in muscular strength, power, and endurance. But the peak torque ratio in antagonists of knee in soccer players were a little lower.<BR> Therefore, scientific training which improve flexor’s muscular strength is necessary to prevent from lower limb injuries.
