For the purpose of providing basic data in rowing and canoeing, the results of the comparison between rowers and canoeists are as follows:
1. Rowers and canoeists possess similar physiques in body weight, chest girth. While rowers are taller in height, possess longer upper limbs and thinner skinfold than canoeists, canoeists are better developed than rowers in the lower limb.
2. Rowers and canoeists possess similar muscular strength in grip strength and back strength. While canoeists are stronger than rowers in arm strength and muscular endurance, rowers possess more leg strength. Rowers and canoeists perform equally in the 50-meter-run and show equal agility in the sargent jump.
3. While rowers and canoeists show similar flexibility in trunk extension, canoeists show more flexibility in trunk flexion. Canoeists perform better than rowers on the side step agility test, 2000-meter-run and Harvard step endurance test. Also canoeists are quicker than rowers in whole body reaction time.
4. While rowers possess better developed physiques than canoeists, canoeists possess slightly better developed physical fitness than rowers.
