The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of exercises on activation of antioxidant enzymes(glutathione, GPX and GR) activity. For this purpose, general students(8 male and 8 female) of K university were volunteered up to be tested to a treadmill running with a fixed load amounting to 70% of VO2max(maximal oxygen uptake) until their entire physical all-out. Subjects" blood sampling was tested rest, immediately after, recovery 10 and 20 minutes after the exercise to be examined.
1. It was found out that the general male student group showed the highest glutathione concentration significantly in 10 minute of recovery, while the greneral female student group indicated the highest glutathione concentration in rest(before exercise). Also, it was found out that the general male student group showed higher level of glutathione concentration significant than general female student group.
2. It was found out that the general male and female student group showed the highest GPX activity in rest(before exercise). while the general male student group showed higher level of GPX activity significant than general female student group.
3. It was found out that the general male student group showed the highest GR activity significantly in 20 minute of recovery, while the greneral female student group indicated the highest GR activity in 10 minute of recovery. Also, it was found out that the general male student group showed higher level of GR activity significant than general female student group.
In conclusion, this research means that general male student group presented higher level of antioxidant enzyme activity significant than general female student group. Specially, the general male students were rapidly decreased lactic acid and free-radical after acute high-intensity exercise than the general male students.
Future studies may consider exercise type, sex, and age. Specially, further research may be consider free-radical action and antiuoxidant enzymes following to exercise intensity.
