In this study, 600 amateur marathoners participated in three national events were divided into two groups, sports massage applied group and non-treated group, to investigate the effect of sports massage on their performance, injury prevention, and recovery. Results showed that; 1) sports massage group showed more completion numbers than non-treated group, 2) the records were better in sports massage group, 3) sports massage made the fatigue feeling period after running shorter, and 4) sports massage helped the participants sleep better at the event day night. So, it can be concluded that taking sports massage may have a certain level of benefits on the better performance, injury prevention, and recovery from fatigue. From these facts, the following suggestions are possible; 1) more specific way of sports massage needs to be developed for some specific events, 2) the scientific mechanism of how sports massage works, 3) systematically trained sports massagists are needed.
