A Pseudo-Longitudinal Study on Growth of Physical Structure of Korean Youth in Rural Area

&nbsp;&nbsp;The purpose of this study is to suggest good materials for the physical education in school and the growth of physical structure of the farm youths. The subjects of this study are 1,280 male students (general : 640 ; vocational : 640) and 1,280 female students (general : 640 ; vocational : 640) in the third grade of high school. This study obtained these conclusions by comparing body height. body weights, chest-girth and sitting height from the health records ranging from thr first grade of the elementary school to the third grade of high school of the 2.560 of the general population, and obtained M. G. A of them.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;The conclusions are as follows :<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;A. Measurement of Body<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;1. Body Height (㎝)<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;The average growth of body height of 7 year-old boys was 111.76±4.78 and 18 year-old boys, 168.83±5.83. Boys of general school showed rapid growth rate. For girls, they showed a linear growth rate from 7 year-old, 111.00±4.52 to 14 year-old, 151.09±5.69. But, the girls between 14 and 18 showed a gentle growth rate.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;2. Body weight (㎏)<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;For boys, the average body weight of 7 year-old boys was 18.97±2.13 and that of 18 year­old boys, 59.84±7.48. The growth of body weight of boys was a linear growth and there were few differences between general and vocational. For girls, while 7 year-old girls was 18.25±1.97 and 15 year-old girls, 47.38±6.83 indicating a linear growth, the increase after the age of 16 was inactive.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;3. Chest-girth (㎝)<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;The average chest-girth of 13 year-old boys was 69.83±4.19 and that of 16 year-old boys was 82.02±5.36 in general high schools. The average chest-girth of students of general high schools was higher than that of vocational high schools. In case of girls, the average chest­girth of vocational high school girls were increased by degrees.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;4. Sitting Height (㎝)<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;The average sitting height of 7 year-old boys was 63.18±2.88 and that of 18 year-old, 91.71±3.15 showing a linear growth, and students of general high schools showed rapid growth rate. For girls, they showed a linear growth showing the age of 7 to 16, 62.25±2.79㎝, 51.09±5.69㎝, respctively.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;B. Maximum Growth Age.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;It showed that the maximum growth age of boys&quot; body height was 14.61 and that of girls was 11.97 and that growth of girls exceles that of boys by 2.5 years.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;For body weight, the maximum growth age of girls age of girls body weight was 14.85 and 13.01, respectively. That of girls exceeds that of boys by 1.5 years.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;Maximum growth age of boys&quot; sitting height was 14.91 and that of girls, 12.12.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;Maximum growth of girls exceeds that of boys by 2.5 years.
