This research aims at finding out the personal qualities of the students who wish to be a professional golfer and investigating traits of their characters so that we could provide basic data to show each golfer"s characteristic features and contribute to the improvement in their playing capability.
The test tool used in this research was collected from Character Elements Test, Korean Edition(written by Yum Tae Ho and Kim Jung Kyu in 1990) which was selected from Cattell and his colleagues" 16 Character Elements tests C type - which have five types, A, B, C, D, and E - and complemented. With SAS for Windows, we have calculated an average and a standard deviation based on the data and verified whether there is a difference in them by T- Test and One-Way Anova.
The results of the research are as follows:
1. On the difference in 16 character elements between would-be semiprofessional golfers and would-be tour-professional golfers, the element B, Q1, and Q3 show an meaningful difference(p<.05), and would-be tour-professional golfers scored higher than semiprofessional golfers in these elements.
2. On the difference in 16 character elements according to one"s career as an golfer, just two of 16 elements - B and Q2 - show an meaningful difference (p<.05), and golfers who have more than 11 years of career scored higher than others in these two elements.
3. On the difference in character elements according to the frequency in taking the test, just Q4 in 16 elements show an meaningful difference(p<.05), and the golfers who had taken more than five to nine tests scored higher than others.
4. On the difference in character elements according to golfers" sexuality, element F, H, and O show an meaningful difference(p<.05), and male golfers scored higher than female ones in these elements.
5. On the difference in character elements according to the golfer"s age, element B, E, and F show an meaningful difference(p<.05). 26 to 30 year old golfers scored highest in element B, more than 31 year old golfers scored highest in element E, and golfers less than 20 year old scored highest in element F.
6. On the difference in character elements according to the each golfer"s academic career, element C, I, and M show an meaningful difference(p<.05). Graduates of a graduate school scored highest in element C, graduates of a highschool scored highest in element I, and graduates of an under-graduate school scored highest in element M.
7. On the difference in character elements according to the each golfer"s marital status, element F, G, H, and L show a meaningful difference(p<.05).
