A Study on School Physical Activity of Elementary School Students who Discipline Taekwondo

This study was intended to investigate a difference of recognition on school physical activity of elementary school students who disciplined Taekwondo for students who are practicing Taekwondo in Grade 3 ~ Grade 6. For the study, five gymnasiums which had more than 100 students among Taekwondo gymnasiums located in Goyangsi Gyeonggi-do were selected. Then, 80 students of Grade 3 ~ Grade 6 who disciplined Taekwondo in each gymnasium were selected. Total 400 copies of questionnaire were distributed to them and then 380 copies out of 400 copies were collected. Among collected 380 copies of questionnaire, 336 copies except 44 copies which had the double writing or the same answers were selected for the analysis. The questions of this questionnaire were added or modified based on the questionnaire used for the study of Jinseok Lee(2002) and Heyognjin Kwon(2003). Then, it was reorganized and utilized suitably for the purpose of this study after an expert"s advice. As the analysis method of this study, the frequency analysis, Independent-Samples t-Test, and One-way ANOVA were used. Through Scheffe"s subsequent verification, the detailed difference was examined. This analysis was conducted in α=.05 of significant level. The results of study are described as follow. First, as the result of verifying the difference of recognition on school physical activity of these elementary school students by personal characteristics, there was partially the significant difference by a gender. There was statistically-significant difference in the relation degree factor, confident participation factor, and performance evaluation factor by grade. Also, there was statistically-significant difference in confident participation factor, understanding factor of game rule, and the performance evaluation factor by Poom (Taekwondo level). Second, as the result of verifying the difference of assistance that Taekwondo discipline gives to the school physical activity by student"s personal characteristics, there was statistically-significant difference in a short distance running, long distance running, push-up, sit-up, and expression exercise by gender. Also, there was statistically-significant difference in a gymnastics, push-up, and expression exercise by grade. There was statistically-significant difference in a ball game, broad jump, high jump, push-up, sit-up, and expression movement by Poom (Taekwondo level).
