가족가치에 관한 국제비교연구 - 성별 및 세대간 차이를 중심으로

A Comparative Study of Family Values: Focusing on Sex and Generational Difference

  이 연구는 2002년 국제사회조사의 가족모듈과 2003년 한국종합사회조사의 자료를 이용하여 한국의 가족가치가 국제적인 맥락에서 어떤 위치에 있는지를 분석하고 있다. 특히 현재 한국사회에서 제기되고 있는 가치관의 세대차이를 검증하기 위해 여러 태도나 가치 중 가족가치를 골라 한국의 가족가치에 성별, 세대별 차이가 나타나고 있는지를 검토하고 있다. 연구결과 한국의 가족가치는 겉으로 드러난 결과로만 보면 국제적인 수준에서 매우 전통적인 것으로 나타났다. 또 성별차이는 심각하게 두드러지지 않지만, 세대별 차이는 비교적 나타나는 것으로 보였다. 그러나 성별, 세대별 차이는 한국에서만 관찰되는 것이 아니고, 소위 탈물질적인 가치관을 향유하고 있는 서구 국가에서도 여전히 관찰된다. 따라서 한국의 가족가치만 성별, 세대별 차이가 있다거나, 한국의 가족가치에 세대별 차이가 심하다고 결론지을 근거가 약하다고 보았다.

&nbsp;&nbsp;This research aims at investigating where Korean&quot;s family values stand when compared with those of other countries. For this study, 2002 International Social Survey Program family module data and 2003 Korean General Social Survey data are used. The total 34 countries are included in this research. This research has the following four hypotheses: 1) Family values in Korea is the most traditional when compared with those in the other countries. 2) Family values in Korea is undergoing a kind of polarization. 3) Men&quot;s attitudes are likely to be more traditional than women&quot;s in the other countries as well as in Korea. 4) Younger generation is more likely to have non-traditional family values than older generation. Among family values, this research deals attitudes toward marriage, cohabitation, and the relation between marriage and childbirth. These attitudes are estimated with the following statements: "married people are generally happier than unmarried people" "People who want children ought to get married" "It is all right for a couple to live together without intending to get married" "It is a good idea for a couple who intend to get married to live together first."<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;As is hypothesized, Korean&quot;s family values are highly traditional and conservative. However, it cannot be said that family values in Korea are more polarized than those in other countries. It is not always that men&quot;s attitudes are more traditional than women&quot;s in terms of family values. However, it is clear that there is an intergenerational gap in family values not only in Korea but also in advanced societies such as Western and Northern European countries.
