This paper examined the combined and separate charismatic effects of visionary and self-sacrificial leader behaviors using experimental scenarios. The results show that the leader who is both visionary and self-sacrificial is perceived to be more charismatic than the leader who is merely visionary or than the leader who is merely self-sacrificial. Thus, it was concluded that the two behaviors mutually facilitate each other in their charismatic influences on followers, and they form an effective constellation of charismatic leadership. In addition, interaction patterns between the visionary and the self-sacrificial behaviors are obtained and interpreted. An important contribution of this research is that it attempted to separate the leadership effects of the two major charismatic leader behaviors.
