초등학교 영어 학습자들의 정의적 영역 측정 도구 개발에 관한 연구

Development of an Instrument for Measuring Affective Characteristics of Elementary School English Learners

  The purpose of this study is to develop an instrument for measuring Korean elementary students" interest and self-confidence about English. For the purpose, the study was carried out in the following two stages: developing an instrument by analyzing master"s theses of elementary English education and examining the reliability and the validity of the instrument by piloting it. In 42 theses, 297 items for interest and 268 items for self-confidence were analyzed in accordance with criteria such as methods for measuring, response formats, directions for responding, the number of items, and the contents of items. Relating to the contents of items, 297 interest items were classified into 19 categories, while 268 self-confidence items into 14 ones. As a result, a self-report questionnaire, which has 19 interest items and 14 self-confidence items about English using the 5-point Likert scales, was developed. Then, the items of the self-report questionnaire were asked to 164 elementary school English learners to test the reliability and the validity. The reliability coefficients were 0.9120 for the interest items and 0.9027 for the self-confidence items. Also, correlations revealed that most of the items were firmly connected with each other. And 3 factors for the interest items and 2 factors for the self-confidence items were generated by factor analysis. On the basis of the research findings, an implication can be drawn that it is worth to develop instruments for affective characteristics and it is needed to generalize the instruments in English education.
