미국과 호주의 대입전형제도 비교 연구 - 2008학년도 대입제도 개선안의 쟁점을 중심으로

A Comparative Analysis of University Admission Procedures in USA and Australia : Focusing on the Issues emerging from the New Korean Procedures implemented in 2008

  본 연구의 목적은 미국과 호주의 대학입학전형제도를 비교ㆍ분석하여 우리나라의 대입제도 개선에 대한 시사점을 발견하는 것이다. 이를 위해 양국의 학교제도와 대입전형시 학업성취도평가방법 등을 살펴본 후 종합비교를 통해 공통점과 차이점을 탐색하였다. 연구의 결과 미국 전형제도의 특징은 다양한 전형요소들을 종합적으로 검토하여 평가하는 인간의 판단에 기초하는 종합평가방법이라 할 수 있으며, 호주의 경우에는 객관성과 상대적 서열이 강조되고 있었다. 대학 구성원의 다양성 측면에서는 미국의 사례가 더 개방화되어 있으며, 호주의 경우에는 농어촌 지역배려와 학생들의 개인적 조건을 배려하는 EAS제도를 운영하고 있다. 본 연구의 시사점으로는 양국의 학업성취도 평가 방식의 차이는 서로 다른 고등학교교육제도에 기인하고 있음으로 대입제도 개선을 위한 논의의 출발점을 고등학교교육 현장으로 돌아가서 다시 시작해야 한다는 점 등이다.

&nbsp;&nbsp;The purpose of this study was to provide suggestions for university admission procedures in Korea, on the basis of comparing those of USA and Australia. In order to achieve the aim of this study, each country&quot;s high school system was analyzed first, followed by examining some features of university admission procedures. Consequently, two countries&quot; university admission systems were compared to identify some similarities and differences between them.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;The results of the study suggest that the two countries&quot; different high school systems can be a cause for different university admission procedures currently implemented in the two countries. In USA, various students&quot; records including school reports, standardized exam results such as AP, SAT, ACT, etc. and other supporting materials are analysed and reviewed comprehensively by&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;readers&quot;. This reviewing system is called as &quot;human judgements&quot;. On the other hand, Australian system is strictly based on the results of year 12 higher school certificate. The University Admission Index(UAI), a numerical measure of a student&quot;s overall academic achievement in the HSC in relation to that of other students, is used for solely by universities or in conjunction with other data such as UMAT, STAT or students&quot; portfolio to select applicants for admission to university.
