燕巖의「烈女咸陽朴氏傳」再考 - 새로운 자료 소개를 겸하여

Reconsidering Yeonam(燕巖)"s「Yeleohamyangparksigeon(烈女咸陽朴氏傳)」

&nbsp;&nbsp;본고는 소설과 열녀전으로 알려진 燕巖 朴趾源의「烈女咸陽朴氏傳」을 다시 고찰함으로써 작품의 창작동기 및 주제를 밝히기 위해 썼다. 이런 목적을 달성하기 위해 연암의 작품을 보다 깊이 있게 정독하고, 아울러 새로운 자료를 소개하며 이를 통해 작품을 상호 대비하고 입체적으로 조명한다. 새로운 자료는 연암의 작품에서도 그 작품명과 작자명을 밝히고 있는 세 편의 작품과, 그리고 그 존재자체를 처음 소개하는 한 편의 작품이다.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;학계에 새로 소개하는 작품은 ？敦恒의「烈婦朴氏行錄」, 咸陽郡守 尹光錫의「烈婦朴氏傳」, 山淸縣監 李勉齊의「朴烈婦傳」,『閒汨董』에 수록된 작자미상의「烈女朴氏傳」등이다. 본고에서는 새로운 자료를 소개하기 위해 네 작품을 각각 분절로 나누어 그 개요를 소개하고, 논문 뒤에 부록으로 제시하였다.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;새로운 자료와 연암의 작품을 상호 입체적으로 대비함으로서 본 논문이 도달한 결론은 연암의 작품은 단순히 殉節한 함양 박씨를 미화 칭송하기 위해 지은 것은 아니며, 그 장르 역시 소설로 보는 관점은 잘못되었다는 것이다. 따라서 종전 학계에서의 연구 성과는 일정 정도 수정되어야 한다. 연암의 작품은 순절의 폐습을 심각하게 비판한 것이며, 작품 제목을「烈女咸陽朴氏傳」이라고 한 것은 박씨의 순절이 그 주제를 입론하기 위한 하나의 계기를 제공하였다는 것이며 박씨를 미화하려는 의도가 아니었다. 또한 제목이 소설적인 傳처럼 되어 있기 때문에 종래 이를 소설적 작품으로 간주해 왔으나, 작품창작의 동기나 내용으로 볼 때 이는 산문 작품이다.

&nbsp;&nbsp;This paper aims to clarify the theme and the motive for its creation by reconsidering 「Yeleohamyangparksigeon(烈女咸陽朴氏傳)」 of Yeonam Park Ji-Won(燕巖 朴趾源) who is noted for novels including Yeleogeon(烈女傳). A closer reading of Yeonam(燕巖)&quot;s works and the parallelism of both through the introduction of new materials make it possible to attain this goal. The new materials are the three works with the writer&quot;s name and the title name along with one work unknown up to date.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;The works newly introduced to the academic society are Sin Don-hang(？敦恒)「Yelbuparksihangrok(烈婦朴氏行錄)」, Yoon Kwang-seok(尹光錫)「Yelbuparksigeon(烈婦朴氏傳)」, Lee Myun-jae(李勉齊)「Parkyelbu- geon(朴烈婦傳)」, and the anonymous work「Yeleoparksigeon(烈女朴氏傳)」in『Hangoldong(閒汨董)』. In this article, the effectiveness of the introduction of the four works leads to the division of them into each chapter with its own synopsis in each work, All the works are attached as an appendix in the very end.<BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;The scrutiny on the parallelism of both the new materials and Yeonam(燕巖)&quot;s works induces the conclusion that Yeonam(燕巖)&quot;s works are not written just to glorify the sacrifice of herself in defence of her chastity, and the classification of its genre into a novel is also problematic. In this perspective, the academic accomplishments so far made by scholars should be partly amended. Yeonam(燕巖)&quot;s「Yeleohamyangparksigeon(烈女咸陽朴氏傳)」is a poignant criticism of the abuse of self-sacrifice. The entitlement of it to「Yeleohamyangparksigeon(烈女咸陽朴氏傳)」is not a glorification of the lady, but a means of building up the theme. Furthermore, the title with the novel-like Geon(傳) attached has primarily ministered to calling it a novel. But Yeonam(燕巖)&quot;s motive for its creation and its content strongly suggest that it is prose.
