한국의 사교육비 격차 추세에 관한 연구 - 한국노동패널조사의 다극화 지수와 지니 계수를 이용한 분석

A Longitudinal Analysis of Private Tutoring Expenditure: A Polarization Index and Gini Coefficient Analysis of KLIPS

  본 연구는 한국노동패널조사 자료를 다극화 지수와 지니 계수를 이용하여 각 가구가 2001년부터 2004년까지 4년간 소비한 사교육비 지출 격차의 추세에 대해 종단분석을 하였다. 최종 분석대상은 매 년도마다 전국의 약 1,500개 가구이다. 주요 연구결과를 살펴보면 2001년도 이후 사교육비 지출은 계속해서 증가해 왔으며 5분위로 나눈 각 집단 간에도 사교육비 지출에 상당한 격차가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 다극화 지수와 지니 계수를 이용한 분석결과, 사교육비 지출 격차는 점점 심화된 것으로 나타났다. 끝으로 본 연구결과에 기초해서 사교육비에 대한 적절한 교육정책 수립과 후속연구를 위한 시사점을 제시하였다.

  Using the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS) data of about 1,500 households in Korea, this study investigated the general trends of private tutoring expenditure from 2001 to 2004. To accomodate the longitudinal structure of the data and research questions, the study used the polarization index and Gini coefficient methods to estimate the distribution of private tutoring expenditure across each social group. We found that each social group varied in terms of average expenditure of private tutoring. Moreover the gaps of private tutoring expenditure have increased over the surveyed years. Suggestions and implications of conducting a future study on private tutoring expenditure of each household are also discussed.
