왕거미류가 생산하는 원형거미줄의 구조 및 기하학적 특징들을 분석하는 데 있어서, 포토샵 프로그램은 매우 편리하고 매우 유용한 도구로 사용될 수 있다. 거미 그물의 좌표값들은 그물의 다양한 수학적 표현 및 컴퓨터 모델링 과 시뮬레이션을 위한 기초자료들이다. 따라서 이번 연구를 통해서 포토샵을 이용한 왕거미류의 원형그물의 구성 성분들에 대한 좌표를 구하려고 시도하였다. 만약 포토샵으로부터 계산한 그물의 좌표들이 실제 측정한 좌표들과 통계적으로 다르지 않다면, 좌표값을 이용한 원형그물의 다양한 구성성분의 분석 절차는 매우 단순화 될 수 있을 것이다. 그러므로 이번 연구는 포토샵을 이용해 계산된 좌표값이 원형그물의 실제 좌표값들과 어느 정도 일치하는지 검정하기 위해 수행하였다. 먼저, 포토샵 프로그램에 원형그물의 사진을 입력한 후, 소프트웨어에 있는 영상분석툴(image analysis tool)을 이용하여 좌표값을 구하였다. 그리고 직접 계산한 좌표값과 포토샵을 이용한 좌표값들을 비교하였다. 결과에 따르면 두 좌표값들은 통계적으로 중요한 차이가 없었다 (P ＞ 0.05).
Adobe Photoshop would be a very convenient and easy tool which can be used for analysis of geometric features in spider’s orb-webs. The coordinates can be used as basic raw data for various mathematical expressions and computer-based simulations of spider webs. Thus, we have tried to obtain the Photoshop-based coordinates of geometric features in spider orbwebs. If the web coordinates obtained using the Photoshop do not differ significantly from the hand-based coordinates, procedures for the analysis of orb-webs can be simplified. Thus we tested whether our method using the Photoshop software provides accurate coordinate measures of the features in spider orb-webs. We imported orb-web photographs into the software program to obtain the coordinates of components in orb-webs, and measured the coordinates using image analysis tools implemented in the software. Finally, we compared the Photoshop-based coordinates with hand-based coordinates. The coordinates based on the Photoshop did not differ significantly from the hand-based coordinates (P ＞ 0.05).
