The aim of this paper is to clarify the process of the word formation by the syntactic suffix "-tap-". The main points can be summarized as followings. Firstly, "-tap-" derivations are classified into two classes. The one is lexical and the other is syntactic. Secondly, the syntactically derived adjectives by "-tap-" suffixation are formed by the head movement. Other alternatives such as the sideward movement and the multi dominance have problems. Thirdly, the head movement operates not in the phonetic component but in the syntactic component. Finally, the head of the complement of "-tap-" can agree with the prefinal ending "-usi-", which is possible on the basis of the local syntactic relation, that is, the head-to-head relation. The head-to-head relation can be established when the head of "-tap-" complement moves syntactically to the syntactic suffix "-tap-".
