지방사립대학교수의 삶에 관한 연구

A Study on the Academic Life of Local Private University Faculty

  이 연구의 목적은 지방사립대학교수들의 삶을 살펴보는 것이다. 한국에서 지방‘사립’대학교수들의 삶은 갈등의 연속이다. 대학재정의 감축, 신입생의 감소, 대학과 교수에 대한 사회적 책무성의 강화 등은 지방대학과 지방사립대학 교수에게 실제적 및 잠재적 위기요인으로 작용하고 있다. 지방사립대학이 당면한 급격한 대학환경의 변화는 대학교수의 삶에 상당한 변화를 미칠 것으로 예상되며, 그 구체적인 내용을 살펴보는 것은 의미있는 일이다. 연구결과 첫째, 지방사립대학교수들은 대체로 대학교수로서 자신의 삶을 성공적으로 평가하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 대학교수직에 대한 긍정적 평가와 달리 전체 응답자의 절반 이상이 대학과 대학교수의 미래에 대하여 비관적이었으며, 절반 정도의 교수들은 신분불안을 경험하였다. 셋째, 학생모집에 관한 스트레스를 가장 강하게 받고 있었으며, 학생모집의 어려움으로 인한 대학생존의 위기 때문에 수도권 소재 대학으로의 대학간 이동을 희망하는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 절반 이상의 교수들은 교육과 연구 사이에서 역할 갈등을 경험하고 있었다. 다섯째, 정부의 대학정책에 대한 불만의 정도가 매우 높았다.

  The purpose of this paper is to explore on the Academic Life of Local Private University Faculty. It explores the extent to which and ways in which faculty working within the context of local private university might be seen their academic life, life satisfaction and job stress. Despite the importance of faculty, there is little understanding of how demographic variables, professional and institutional life issues, and satisfaction to explain faculty academic life at a local level. This study proposes (a) to understand the dimensions of faculty academic life, satisfaction, and intentions to leave, (b) to explain the extent to which demographic variables and the perceptions of their academic life have an impact on satisfaction, and faculty members’ intentions to leave. Using statistical methods, the findings indicate that the attitude and perceptions faculties have of their work environment have a powerful impact on their satisfaction, and their intentions to leave. Faculties have a negative response on Government"s higher education policy.
