This study was attempted to explore structures and characteristics of verbal communication in nurse-patient interactions. Berne"s Transactional Analysis theory was used to analyse the verbal processes. The subjects selected for this study were two patients able to communicate with the nurse, one"s diagnosis was alcoholic dependence with antisocial personality disorder(DSM-IV).
Data collection was done from June 18 to June 23, 2004.
The results were as follows.
1) When the nurse communicate with the alcoholics with antisocial personality disorder, the nurse tended to use A (34.1%), or NP(13.6%).
2) When the nurse communicate with the alcoholics with antisocial personality disorder, the patient tended to use Adult(19.7%) or AC(17.4%).
The research should be replicated, so TA theories and ways of doing psychiatric nursing care could be constantly expanded and examined. And a transactional model of nurse-patient interaction should be proposed and tested repeatedly.
