A Comparative Study of Patients, Nurses and Physicians" Attitudes about Complementary and Alternative Therapy

  Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a fundamental reference for the clinical implementation of Complementary and Alternative Therapy(CAT) by surveying and analyzing different perception and attitude among patients, nurses and physicians. Method: A total of 157 patients, 124 nurses and 70 physicians from K university D hospital in D city participated in this survey, and SPSS program with version 11.0 was used to analyze the result of survey. Result: As results, 65.0% patients, 64.5% nurses and 33.4% physicians showed positive attitude for the concept of CAT, 68.4% patients, 71.1% nurses and 28.6% physicians responded positively while 7.5% patients, 3.2% nurses and 29.6% physicians responded negatively for the application of CAT to the clinical practice. 53.3% patients and 59.8% nurses believed therapeutic effectiveness of CAT while 21.8% physicians did. 69.0% patients and 69.6% nurses believed social interest of CAT while 42.5% physicians did. 69.4% patients and 57.3% nurses believed communication of CAT while 40.9% physicians did. There was a meaningful difference among three groups in belief of application, therapeutic effectiveness, social interest, communication of CAT. Conclusion: In this study, the attitudes of patients, nurses and physicians about CAT showed meaningful difference that patients and nurses were more positive than physicians.
