Women’s Participation and Role in Research Development of Science, Technology and Its Utilization

  이 연구에서는 생명공학의 발달이 여성에게 미치는 영향과 건강에 대한 인식, 생명공학의 발달에 따른 여성의 참여와 선택의 문제, 한국과 일본의 여성 과학기술자의 분포현황 등에 대해 알아보았다. 최근 여성 과학기술자나 연구원의 비율이 점점 높아지고 있으나 실제 연구와 개발 과정에서는 여성 연구원들의 비중 있는 역할을 기대하기 어려우며, 주요 의사결정 과정에서 소외되기도 한다. 이는 일본의 경우도 마찬가지이다. 생명공학의 특성상 연구개발 과정에 여성연구원의 참여는 필수적이다. 또한 미래의 과학기술 분야에 여성과 관련된 다양한 사례의 수집과 분석을 통해 여성이 의도적으로 소외된 부분을 조명하고, 여성의 역할과 참여를 높이는 방안을 강구해야 할 필요가 있다.

  This study purports to examine the effect of biotechnology development on women, acknowledgement of women’s health issues in biotechnology, the decision-making process in medical treatment and biotechnology research, distribution of women scientists in research fields and lastly, policies on training and supporting women scientists. Biotechnology has a significant relationship to the medical field which deals with women’s health issues. Moreover, women researchers become potential subjects for research as well. Recently, the percentage of women scientists and researchers in Korea biotechnology is growing. However, it is difficult to incorporate women’s voice or opinion in the process of research and development, and often their opinions are rejected in the crucial decision-making process. This is similar in Japan as well. Considering the specifics of biotechnology, participation of women researchers is crucial. Preparing women scientists and researchers who can play an active and leading role in research process is a timely call. Research cases in which women are intentionally excluded must be reviewed and analyzed by collecting information in order to formulate efficient strategies to raise the level of women’s participation and voices in science technology.
