정보화시대의 영재와 영재교육

Gifted Children and Gifted Education in the Information Society

  현대사회는 수많은 정보 속에서 자신에게 필요한 정보를 생산, 분배, 조작하는 것이 중요하게 여겨지는 정보화 사회이다. 또한 테크놀로지가 중요한 학습의 도구가 되며, 학습과 관련해서 얼마나 효과적으로 테크놀로지를 사용할 수 있느냐로 문혜의 개념을 확장시켜 나가야 한다는 ‘테크놀로지 문해’ 개념이 대두되고 있다. 이러한 정보화 사회에서는 영재교육과 관련하여 정보를 다루는 능력과 관련된 영재성의 개념을 분명하게 할 필요가 있으며, 정보화 시대에 대두되는 영재들을 제대로 판별하고 그들의 능력과 적성에 맞는 영재교육을 실시하는 것이 중요하다. 따라서 이 글은 정보화시대에 요구되는 영재성의 개념정립과 영재교육을 위한 몇 가지 중요한 논쟁점들을 중심으로 논의를 전개하고 있다. 이 글의 본문은 크게 세 부분으로 이루어져 있는데, 첫째, 정보관련 영재성에 관한 국내외의 최근 연구들을 검토하고, 정보영재, 정보과학영재, 컴퓨터 영재, 테크놀로지 영재 등 여러 관련 연구들에서 혼용되고 있는 정보관련 영재성의 개념들의 특징을 비교 분석한다. 둘째, 정보화 시대에 필요한 영재를 판별하는 과정에서 현재 시행되고 있는 국내외 판별 도구 및 판별 절차의 특징을 비교한 다. 셋째, 대학 부설 과학영재교육원을 중심으로 현재 우리나라에서 실시되고 있는 정보영재나 컴퓨터 영재를 위한 교육현황을 살펴보고, 시사점에 대해 논의한다. 결론적으로 향후 정보관련 영재의 지적, 정서적, 행동적 특징을 밝히고, 제대로 판별해 내기위한 도구 개발 및 합리적인 절차에 대한 후속연구들이 더욱 많이 요구된다고 할 수 있다. 마지막으로 영재교육과 관련해서 윤리교육과 협동학습의 가능성에 대해 논의하고 있다.

  Our society is information society because of the growing importance of creation, distribution, and manipulation of information. Therefore, in the 21st century, "giftedness" comes from various domains including information processing and technology literacy. Students should know how to use and apply technology in order to achieve goals in a learning situation. However, the conceptualization and identification procedures of gifted in the information area have not yet been examined systematically. Students who are gifted in the area of information, computer, and technology may not be identified by traditional methods because there is little research concerning the identification and the examination of the personality, cognitive, and behavioral characteristics of information gifted children. With respect to this, the purpose of this article is to address the issue of conceptual complexity of information gifted, information-science gifted, computer gifted and technology gifted which can be used in the information society, compare identification instruments and procedures, analyze science gifted education programs that could promote potentials and abilities of the information gifted children, and discuss how we design future research studies to identify and understand the characteristics of information gifted children. The implications of using ethics education and cooperative learning are discussed.
