Soft Remote Control System using Hand Pointing Gestures
Soft Remote Control System using Hand Pointing Gestures
- 19
This paper deals with a soft remote control system that controls home appliances by recognizing the users hand pointing gestures. When the user wants to control an appliance, he/she only needs to point to it. The system recognizes hand position and pointing direction from the images of 3 color cameras equipped with pan/tilt devices, and then certifies the users command with sound. If the users command is correct, the system controls the appliance by sending an IR remote control signal. Since the system complements the inconvenience of conventional remote controllers (remocon), it can be useful for the able-bodied as well as the disabled and/or the elderly.
