This paper addresses an application issue for navigation with the Blinking Artificial Star system. One problematic phenomenon with a previous system has been that the recognition rate of the Artificial Star drops drastically when a robot is in motion, due to the afterimage effect. In this paper, a new Artificial Star with blinking LEDs is introduced to remove the afterimage. Thus, the robot can continue to move while sensing Artificial Stars that allow it to localize. In addition, the improved navigation capability of the proposed transfer robot is demonstrated under an artificial environment. This new approach can be a low-cost and reliable localization system for most indoor mobile robots.
