Korean Buddhism in the specific period from the end of Shila to the early Goryo was rich in both ideological and religious ways.
The Zen idea was introduced at that time but compared to China. it did not become popular. It was mostly because of the failure to distinguish itself from the Non-Zen Buddhism. the lack of intense labor value shown in 「BaiZhang」 set up the Zen discipline of purity, and the failure of reading people"s needs. As a result. the Zen Buddhism"s superiority to the Non-Zen one appeared to be disjunctive.
However through the discord of these two ideas. Korean Buddhism could form its unique ideological patterns.
The first was the pursuit of the one vehicle. which was found as efforts to unify the high priests" ideas and to make living beings and Buddha to be one.
The second was Dharrnap?la"s spirit. When it related to the national gains. it became the spirit for defending the country.
