A new type of iridium(III) complex [trans-Ir(ppy)₂(PPh₃)₂]+ (1) has been prepared by a novel synthetic method and its structural and photoluminescent characteristics have been compared with those of the cis analogue, [cis-Ir(ppy)₂(PPh₃)-(P(OPh)₃)]+ (2) which has also been newly prepared in this study.
