There are only a few more conventional and popular themes than a motif of love in the history of Korean literature. In particular, so is the motif of love in the epic literature ‘Love’ is an instinctive desire of human senses and when the nature of epic literature is considered as a story, love stories are the most instinctive and common.
This study is to speculate transitional aspect of epic stories on love and the flow of consciousness on love, centering on love that has been used in history of classic epic literature. It selected 〈Su-sap-seok-nam〉, 〈Leesaeng-gyu-hang-jeon〉 in 「Geumosinhwa」, and 〈Joo-saeng-jeon〉 to examine each epic structure and response to conflicts. This study is to examine transitional aspect how love is changed and realized through epic structure and the flow of consciousness on love through the way how the people respond to reality.
The standards to select works as follows:First, they have common things in epic structures. The three works show the structure of meeting and parting, meeting-parting-connection. It is suggested that looking works with common epic systems is more effective to achieve the goal of this study than to compare wholly different works. Second, it is to select the works which deal with love between male and female and the characters who suffer from parting though they have deep love. For ‘love’ is an expression of ‘enthusiasm’ to the person who be loved. In particular, as the three works are representative of Na-mal-yeo-cho, the 15th century and 17th century love literature, it is suggested that they are appropriate to speculate the view of love at that time.
The motifs that are used as materials in ancient and modern literature are diversified. To examine how love that is constantly used as a motif today is realized in their specified investigation and the love that is a point of contact that connects classic literature to modern can be recognized as valuable in the history of literature.
