Up to date academia of strategic management has emphasized upon internal strategic asset, that is, firm-specific resources and capabilities like patent, R&D investment, reputation, technology, etc. as an uppermost driving force of supra-normal returns in competitive market. However, considering some characteristics of a target business in which a focal firm has engaged, environmental management itself, not the internal strategic assets, could become one of the direct forces for higher performance. Based on the case description of Mote Aquaculture Park (MAP), which initiated aquacultural business of sturgeon and caviar at Florida in 1998, several types of business environments which could make meaningful influence on aquacultural business were accentuated and 4-staged conceptual framework of environment-based management for aquacultural business with high performance was proposed in this paper.
