This paper is concerned with investigating the properties of connecting ending, {-nula(ko)} mainly indicating [reason, cause] in contemporary Korean. Then it will be shown the syntactic and semantic features of connecting ending, {-nula(ko)}.<BR> First, connecting ending, {-nula(ko)} has the contracted form {-nula}. In contemporary Koran, the contracted form {-nula} is used more than the original form {-nulako} based on the frequency of usage. So in this paper both of them are written {-nula(ko)}.<BR> Second, The semantic function of {-nula(ko)} can be understood in terms of [PURPOSE], [SIMULTANEITY], and [REASON]. The meanings are divided by the relationship between the event time of preceding clause and succeeding clause.<BR> Lastly, connecting ending, {-nula(ko)} has the syntactic features. It included that in the constraints are the subject person constraint, constraint on the preceding verb, final ending constraints, aspect constraints, and negation constraints. According to this study on the constraints of {-nula(ko)}, the {-nula(ko)} of [PURPOSE] is under more constraints than the {-nula(ko)} indicating [REASON].
