The purpose of this study was to investigate the dietary behavior and snack consumption of primary school children. Self-administered questionnaires were completed by 249 primary school students in the Chungbuk area. The SAS 6.2 program was used for data analysis. In dietary behaviors, 9.3% of the subjects showed skipping breakfast, and 639.% tended to eat only what they like while 19.5% tended to alway overeat. Total energy and nutrient intakes from snacks were 1147.6㎉, 182.2g of carbohydrates, 48.7g of protein, 37.0g of fat and 1424.0 ㎎ of sodium. Compared with the guideline of daily snack consumption, their calorie and sodium intakes were extremely high. Cookies were the major source of calorie and sodium, followed by Ramyeon and bread. In the factors that influence the dietary behaviors and snack consumption, male students were found to overeat more than females, and the students who eat unbalance diet got more calories from snacks than those who eat balanced diet. Therefore, an education program for the students and their parents should be developed and offered to improve their dietary behavior and snack consumption.
