Even though it is fragmentary, D. Thomas"s poetic theory is referred to discretely in his letters. His views about poetry and literature are not systematic and organized, only but a light discourse on writing poems. This is because from the beginning he discarded logical thinking and shunned intellectual life, and because he looked into things intuitively and wrote some of his best poems, not with head, but with heart.
The consistent themes are expressed by means of the following techniques: pantheism, dialectic process, juxtaposition of the images, parallel of the images, paradoxes, duality, organic images, and the use of image-making process under the great subjects ― that of oneness of the inner world and the outer world or the interior and the exterior, oneness of body and spirit ― oneness of all. In his letters, we can read how such an attitudes influenced upon his writing poems.
